The restored colonial buildings of 18th Century Williamsburg in Virginia have very recognizeable colonial architectural features including: narrow dormers with gridded windows, steeply sloped roofs, planked wooden doors, detailed wood mouldings and friezes, beaded clapboard siding and minimal roof overhangs. Their elegantly simple, often symmetrical forms, regularly spaced windows and details have inspired generations of builders, architects and designers interested in the timeless, traditional qualities so richly expressed in that great historical period.
